Introduction

The sociocultural competence of a language interacts narrowly with the discursive and pragmatic competence but goes beyond in managing to express messages within the overall cultural and social context in real-life communication. We can call this consciousness of message management as a Sociocultural Awareness. These interactions, that occur among and within the Discourse, the Pragmatic and the Sociocultural competences, may appear simple, but on the contrary they are something rather complex due to the fact that language is not merely a linguistic code for communicating messages, but rather a complex system that reflects the individual identity. Thus, from this perspective, language represents both the most important way for human communication within the culture and social environment where it is used and, at the same time, an integral part of a person’s identity. Language then is extremely personal, but also an outstanding social process.
